Introduction to Beekeeping
From time to time beginner courses are held, usually in the early Spring, to enable new beekeepers to have some useful knowledge and support. These are usually over two weekends and consist of a theory component, and some hands on in the hive. It is recommended that at the conclusion of this course, you find yourself a mentor who will help you to put your knowledge into practice, answer your million questions, and support you when something goes wrong… and things go wrong even for experienced beekeepers.
Certificate in Apiculture
A more indepth course is held over several months, in weekends (but not every weekend) during Spring and Summer, and this course provides an NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Apiculture, and is run by Otago Polytechnic. This course includes the AFB course and test, which will enable you to check your own hives for AFB (if you pass of course).
